The President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll
2012 Announcement

The President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll, launched in 2006, annually highlights the role colleges and universities play in solving community problems and placing more students on a lifelong path of civic engagement by recognizing institutions that achieve meaningful, measureable outcomes in the communities they serve.

The 2012 Honor Roll recipients will be announced at the American Council on Education’s 94th Annual Meeting Ahead of the Curve on Monday March 10, 2012, in Los Angeles, CA. The 2012 Honor Roll includes:

2012 Honor Roll Presidential Awardees

Carson Newman College – General Community Service
The college has worked to institutionalize service across the campus community through the formation of the Bonner Center for Service Learning and Civic Engagement, the implementation of a service-learning quality enhancement plan, and the development of a group of students working to facilitate campus-wide participation in service.

North Carolina State University – General Community Service
North Carolina State University (NCSU) aims to transform lives, improve the human condition and create positive social change through partnerships with communities, business and government. 

Seattle University – Special Focus: Promise Neighborhood Model
Seattle University focuses much of its community engagement efforts on Seattle’s Central District, a neighborhood adjacent to its campus with one of the highest rates of child poverty, youth violence, and juvenile incarceration in the city.

University of Pennsylvania – Special Focus: Summer Learning
Realizing that its future is deeply intertwined with that of the surrounding communities, the University of Pennsylvania has been deepening its engagement with the West Philadelphia and greater Philadelphia region since the mid-1980s.

Miami University – Special Focus: Early Childhood Education
Miami University is deeply rooted in the community.  Its mission is to empower students, faculty, and staff to become engaged citizens who use their knowledge and skills with integrity and compassion to improve the future of our global society.
