Welcome to the Project Tool Technology Site Glossary. These are listed below.  If you do not find the question and response you are lookig form, click here and ask us.



Term: Organization Account

Definition:

An Organization Account will provide the ability to list organizations in the United States. It is easy to create one, complete the registration form and you can start customizing your own home page, posting opportunities and inviting volunteers to participate.


Term: Friendly URL

Definition:

Your Friendly URL is your unique URL that will allow users to go to your My Project Tech Tool Home Page.  All organizations have their own customizable home page.  This page can be accessed from the Organization profile or directly using the Friendly URL.

Select a string (characters only, no symbols or punctuation), such the name of your organization or initials.  This string must be unique.  In some cases your choice may be taken by another organization.  Try a new string. Use your Friendly URL to:
  • Distribute to your users so they can go directly to your Project Home Page
  • To link another website to you Project Home Page



Term: Referral

Definition:

A referral is a volunteer that has signed up for an opportunity.  A Confirmed Referral is one that has been accepted into an opportunity.




Term: Organization

Definition:

An Organization in the My Project Tool Site is one that posts opportunities, allows volunteers to signup for opportunities and can have multiple locations. An organization at minimum must have a name, address and contact.

Organizations have their home page on the site. This page can be customized with the Organizations look & feel and content.




Term: Location

Definition:

A Location is a subset of an organization.  An organization my have multiple places of operations, called Locations.  A Location can be managed by the Organization or have a coordinator.  Locations can post opportunities and accept volunteers to opportunities.




Term: Opportunity

Definition:

An Opportunity is volunteer service activity. These are created/posted by Organizations and/or Locations. An opportunity at minimum has a date or dates, a name, a location and certain attributes such as type and type of volunteer accepted.

In the My Project Tool Site, opportunities can be of two types: System Opportunities or Third-Party opportunities. System Opportunities are created within the site and volunteers signup to one using the sites signup feature. Third-Party Opportunities are opportunities that are posted by partners on the My Project Tool Site where volunteers are taken to the partner’s site to signup.




Term: Volunteer

Definition:

A volunteer is an individual that is interested or has performed a service activity.  A volunteer who is signed for an opportunity are called referrals.  (A volunteer with an account in the system but not signed up to an opportunity is called simply a volunteer.)

Volunteers can create accounts, search for opportunities and signup for opportunities.




Term: Matching

Definition:

Organizations have the functionality called Matching.  Matching allows them to search for volunteers for a specific opportunity.   The system will search the pool of volunteers available to the organization for matches based on user determined criteria. 

If the system finds matches, the organization can choose to invite these volunteers to participate in the opportunity.




Term: Home Page Designer - About Us

Definition:

Using the Organization Custom Site Advance Home Page Designer, a user can create a link on their home page titled About Us.  This is a customizable page for rich text content.  The user would enter information about their organization.




Term: Disadvantaged Children and Youth

Definition:

Disadvantaged children and youth are those up to age 25 with exceptional or special needs, as defined in part 2552.81 of the DVSA regulations, or who are economically disadvantaged and for whom one or more of the following apply:

  1. Out-of-school, including out-of-school youth who are unemployed.
  2. In our aging out of foster care.
  3. Limited English proficiency.
  4. Homeless or have run away from home.
  5. At-risk to leave school without a diploma.
  6. Former juvenile offenders or at risk of delinquency.
