Opportunity Description: sewing for babies, premature- young children. Sewing/knitting/serging/crocheting/ cutting/quilting baby clothes, quilts, crib sheets, and other baby items All items donated at no cost to social service agencies, hospitals, child care centers. Donations of flannel, knit and fleece fabric, ribbing, elastic and thread and new baby items accepted. Need people all year round to cut and sew/serge. Materials furnished. Sew/serge in our sewing studio or take items home to finish. Special gathering MLK day 10am-3pm. Sewing experience helpful but not necessary,we can teach you,and we have non-sewing jobs too. Suitable for teens and up. Bring sack lunch, dessert and beverages furnished.
Days: Tuesday, Thursday
Tasks for Volunteers: cutting/sewing/serging baby clothes; tearing, cutting corners, sewing corners and serging elastic on crib sheets, packing layettes, copying patterns, sorting and shelving fabric, putting on snaps with snap presses, cutting quilt squares. Could organize a fabric, elastic, thread collection and/ or new baby clothing collection at place of their choice previous to MLK Day.
