Opportunity Description: On January 15, 2008,the traditonal date of Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday, a volunteer training will be held at the James R. Clark Memorial Sickle Cell Foundation. The volunteer training will correlate the need for volunteer service with the "Urgency of Now", which was proclaimed by Dr. King. The training will also include an overview of Sickle Cell Disease, a brief history of the Foundation and pertinent information about volunteer activites throughout the year.
The training will cumulate with volunteers assisiting with the evening meal at the Oliver Gospel Mission from 4:45p.m. - 6:00p.m.
The training will be held from 2:00p.m - 4:00p.m.
Days: Wednesday
Tasks for Volunteers: Volunteers are needed throughout the year to assist with education and outreach activitews such as health fairs and screenings. Volunteers are also needed for special events such as The Annual Family Retreat, The Back-to-School Bash, The Sickle Cell Walk and The Giving Tree.
